Hey everybody...

Guess what?

IV-UW is amazing!!!

I feel so proud of everybody's commitment to engaging the topic of race and everybody's participation in Acting on Aids this quarter.  It's been a whirlwind of a quarter but I've been quite impressed by all the enthusiasm and dedication I've seen.  I just got on my computer and I couldn't help but Google a certain image...

Lol, she wasn't jokin when she was telling us about the Prez giving her a kiss!  Wasn't Princess Kasune Zulu a great inspiration?  Praise God for awesome opportunities!

Speaking of ethnic partiality...

Man, this is just ridiculously offensive.  This is the world we live in and another great reason why Christian folk must be able to have effective conversations about race.  I have a feeling that this guy will get a slap on the wrist at the very most.

Sharpton to meet with Imus on-air

By MARCUS FRANKLIN, Associated Press Writer Mon Apr 9, 6:25 AM ET

NEW YORK - Even as he scheduled an on-air meeting with radio host Don Imus, the Rev. Al Sharpton said he still wants Imus fired for his racially charged comments about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

Sharpton said Sunday he intends to complain to the Federal Communications Commission about the matter.

"Somewhere we must draw the line in what is tolerable in mainstream media," he said. "We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened. Somewhere we've got to stop this."

Sharpton and MSNBC announced that Imus would appear Monday on Sharpton's nationally syndicated program. Meanwhile, the Rev.

Jesse Jackson planned a protest in Chicago, and an NAACP official called for Imus' resignation or firing.

The broadcaster said Wednesday during his nationally syndicated program that members of the mostly black Rutgers team were "nappy-headed hos."

The team, which includes eight black women, had lost the day before in the

NCAA women's championship game. Imus was speaking with producer Bernard McGuirk about the game when the exchange began on "Imus in the Morning," which is broadcast to millions of people on more than 70 stations and the MSNBC television network.

"That's some rough girls from Rutgers," Imus said. "Man, they got tattoos ... ."

"Some hardcore hos," McGuirk said.

"That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said.

Imus has since apologized, but his mea culpa has not quieted the uproar.

Jackson said his RainbowPUSH Coalition planned to protest Monday in Chicago outside the offices of NBC, which owns MSNBC. He said Sunday that protests were being planned across the country.

"If he has a right to use that platform to insult and degrade, then we have a moral obligation to picket NBC and to protest," Jackson said. "If he can violate us in that platform in the name of free speech, we'll be picketing NBC in the name of free speech."

James E. Harris, president of the New Jersey chapter of the

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, demanded Sunday that Imus "resign or be terminated immediately."

Allison Gollust, a spokeswoman for MSNBC, said the network considers Imus' comments "deplorable" and is reviewing the matter.

Karen Mateo, a spokeswoman for CBS Radio — Imus' employer and the owner of his New York radio home, WFAN-AM — said the company was "disappointed" in Imus' actions and characterized his comments as "completely inappropriate."

Imus, who has not been publicly disciplined, apologized on the air Friday.

"It was completely inappropriate, and we can understand why people were offended. Our characterization was thoughtless and stupid, and we are sorry," Imus said, according to a transcript on MSNBC's Web site.

Best work day ever

So today at work was pretty much amazing.  Not only did I sell a bunch of memberships (I work at Barnes & Noble) and I got paid today, but also the DVD that I ordered came in today and I was finally able to pick up The Last Dragon.  This movie is a cult classic in African-American culture and I'm so happy that it is part of my movie collection.  If you've never heard of it, look it up at www.imdb.com

On top of all that stuff, freaking Mike Holmgren came into our store.  I was walking through the store and I see this huge guy who looked just like him.  But this guy was like 6'6" or so and on TV, he doesn't look nearly that tall.  Plus he was a bit slimmer in person.  So he asked me to help him find a Seattle map so I took him to the section and I was like "Um... this is a potentially stupid question but... are you Mike Holmgren?"  He told me yes and then asked me what my name was and shook my hand.  I told him that I'm a huge fan and that I look forward to next year.  Then I went around telling all of my co-workers about this most awesome experience I have ever had in a book store.

Yup... today was pretty sweet.

James 1:2-5, 12

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything... Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."

It seems that life is just so hard for so many people these days.  I feel like many of the people who I really care about are having ridiculously difficult circumstances come up in their lives.  My heart is breaking for lots of different people and it just feels so overwhelming.  Especially with how stressful my own life has been this year.

God I pray specifically for these individuals who feel like they "just can't take anymore."  I pray for the people who are stressed out with school and/or with finance, that you would give them peace in the knowledge that you are Jehovah-jireh, "God who will provide."  I pray for people with physical illness or infirmity, Lord.  I lift them up to you because you are the only one who brings healing.  Thank you for using doctors to restore us but thank you that only you can complete our healing and rejuvenation.  God I pray for people who's faith is running out.  Life seems too hard, trials seem too difficult and they feel like throwing in the towel.  God I pray that you would do a miracle in their lives, that you would radically do something to alter their situation that they may see your power and your faithfulness.   God show yourself strong to your people!

Lord I pray for people who look in deserts for life instead of looking to your living hallomai water for their sustenance.  I pray for people who choose to flee to excessive media consumption to escape the harsh realities of their own lives.  Jesus I pray for people who are having sex or who go to pornography or masturbation to cope or feel ok with the world.  I pray for people who get drunk and think that happiness can be found in alcohol.  God I know that there are so many people who live secret lives of sin, not because they're bad people, but because they don't know how to truly lay their problems down at your feet.  They don't know how to give their insecurities to you, their longing for intimacy, their need for your love.  Or they're afraid that you won't really come through for them.  Lord please enter into the gaps that we have in our hearts and have mercy on us.  God grant us freedom from strongholds and bondages.

And Father I pray that you would be the reconciler of relationships.  That you would bring healing to our families and to old friends that we have fallen out with over the years and that instead of ignoring issues and trying to forget them, that we would instead take them to you and take the difficult steps required to bring forgiveness and wholeness to our relationships.  God please give us wisdom and courage!

And finally God I just really want to lift up my brother in Christ who is going through probably the most difficult period of his entire life.  God, my heart breaks for him the most.  I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to be told that some one so close to me would be dying in a matter of days.  God I think it sucks and I don't want it to have to happen like this.  Lord if there's anyway that you can change things, then I am praying for a miracle.  Please heal him and restore him regardless of what the doctors say.  But if this is according to your will, then I just ask that your shalom and your heavenly comfort would rest on my brother and his family.  I pray that you would give them the ability to fully grieve during this difficult time.  God I also pray this scripture over the family:

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.  We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."

Thank you for hope.  Thank you for love.  And thank you for the ability to persevere and endure.  God we thank you that the suffering we face in life is not in vain.

Amen.

Please pray for Jeff Lam and his family during this most difficult period in their lives.
